SHOW OF COURAGE: Gutsy young guys and gals continue to take on Fly FM and New Straits Times’ Paranoid Activities Challenges
IT was drizzling on a gloomy Saturday morning at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, but the inclement weather did not stop the Fly FM crew from organising the Paranoid Activities for their daring participants.
While hundreds of people were enjoying fun-filled recreational activities, Ng Boon Teong and Adibah Md Ludin were a bundle of nerves as they were put through "more exciting" activities.
With Paranoid Activities kicking into its second league, Fly FM and New Straits Times (NST) continued the streak of bold listeners and readers to cash in their fears to win up to RM40,000.
The second week's challenge saw Ng, 30, taking on the Happy Mansion challenge which he bid for RM1,159 from its opening price of RM8,000.
The challenge required Ng to retrieve five copies of NST from the Scream Park, a haunted house inhabited by zombies, vampires, pocong and other creepy monsters.
Given only 10 minutes, Ng had to make it out with five copies of NST. He would be charged an RM100 penalty for each missing copy.
In his first attempt, Ng only managed to collect three copies of the newspaper. The Fly FM crew gave him one last chance to collect the remaining copies in five minutes.
Ng was straining with every nerve to catch the remaining two copies in his second attempt but in the end, he came out with a single copy of NST. After the RM100 deduction, he walked away with RM1,059.
The quality engineer said he was excited to have completed the task as he was always keen to embrace new challenges.
"I was looking forward to taking part in the Paranoid Activities as I find the challenges quite impressive.
"I did not expect to be the lowest bidder in the Happy Mansion game as I had to compete with thousands of bidders.
"The challenge was not as easy as I thought as the place was so dark and misty I could barely see anything. It was scary as I was harassed and startled by the horrifying creatures. Overall, I am satisfied with my attempt." he said, adding that he would put his winnings into his savings.
The next session saw 23-year-old Adibah taking on the thrill of Reverse Bungee when she bid for RM249 from its price of RM8,000.
Adibah was challenged to do a reverse bungee while holding two raw eggs. Given only one attempt, she had to jump off from the Suspension Bridge without dropping off or breaking the eggs. Otherwise, she could end up as the first contestant without winning any prize.
The account assistant, who had never done bungy jumping, bravely took the plunge and saved the eggs.
Adibah was trembling and panting after the challenge.
"I almost gave up on this challenge as I was terrified by the height which was 40 metres above ground.
"Then I suddenly realised that it would be embarrassing if I quit early without giving it a try. I forced myself to jump off and I am glad that I made it. I plan to use RM249 on recreational activities to celebrate."
Earlier in the week, the Paranoid Activities competition held Ratatouille, where Tg. Mahmood Iskandar bid RM2525 for the challenge.
The challenge, which had a starting price RM11,000, required Tg. Mahmood to retrieve 10 items blindfolded from a container filled with mice. He had to retrieve five 10 sen coins, three hair pins and two wall plug in 40 seconds.
He only managed to pick up eight items but he was offered RM3,000 to retrieve the two coins left in the container. The single father of two bagged the winning prize in under five seconds,
The Torpedo challenge saw Renuga Devi Manohar bid for RM2,410 from its price of RM5,500.
Her challenge was to consume the entire ox's reproductive organ within three minutes.
Remarkably, she braced herself and gulped down the disgusting soup and actually made it through the challenge.
She was then given a surprise as she was offered RM3,000 to consume an ox tongue within two minutes. Renuga agreed to take on the challenge and won RM3,000.
Paranoid Activities will end on Saturday. Those who want to take part can listen to the Pagi Rock crew from Monday to Thursday from 6am to 10am to learn about the challenge of the day and the starting price.
To participate, send an SMS that reads SMS FLYPA BID VALUE to 33399.
The lowest bidders will get to participate in the challenge. Bidding closes at 7pm daily, and another round begin the next day.
